Message
September, 2008
Dear Parents,
Welcome to this new school year! We have had a great start to this year,
and look forward to a strong year of growth for every student. While we
are all excited to know that a new building is coming, our goal this year
is to focus all energy on the teaching-learning process in the classroom,
providing every single student with the most appropriately challenging
opportunities to learn and grow now. Our focus is on educating the whole
child – with added attention to our students’ social and emotional
growth and the continued development of responsible behavior.
I want to invite you to join us for Back to School Night on Monday,
September 24. This year, Back to School Night is being sponsored
by our PTSA, a dynamic group of parents, teachers and students who are
working together to provide the best educational opportunities for every
student at Linganore. I urge you to formally join this group, led by parent
Keith Prather, on Back to School Night. The evening’s events will
provide a chance for you to see all of our teachers and to specifically
meet, in class groups, each of your child’s four teachers as they
present their goals, expectations and special opportunities planned for
the class. You will also meet our PTSA Executive board members and hear
about PTSA plans for the year. Additionally, you’ll have a chance
to visit the LHS Club Fair, and to sign up for individual conferences
with each of your child’s teachers during conference days next month.
Again this year, the LHS Market Place will again be up and running, and
this year some special commemorative items will be available to those
interested. Many of our parent support groups, clubs and special interest
groups will be represented. Yearbooks and rings will be available for
purchase. The evening begins at 5:30 in the auditorium.
I look forward to getting to know you and your children as we progress
through this very exciting time in their lives. There are so many ways
to become involved, to share your enthusiasm and talents and to, as one
dad once told me, enjoy a little adult bonding with friends….not
a bad idea in the life of a busy parent of teenagers.
